Journal Entry #1

1/30/09

Prompt: What are your reasons for reading? What do you do when you read?

Response: I prefer to read for pleasure, but a lot of my reasons for reading right now are for school. When I do have time to read on my own I like to read because it relaxes me after a stressful day/week. I enjoy getting sucked into a really good story and forgetting that I’m sitting in my living room. There’s something magical about a really good story that makes you want to be a character in the novel/play. Unfortunately, I have hardly any time outside of school to jus sit and read. I haven’t even been able to finish the last two books for AP Lit yet, and I started one of them in December. Part of the reason I can’t seem to finish any books lately is because I almost always fall asleep while I am reading. I get so tired during the day that by the time I sit down at the end of the day to read, I pass out after a few pages. I like reading in a really quiet room so I can concentrate on the story or text and not have to deal with any interruptions that would distract me, but I usually end up falling asleep because it is so quiet.
